What My Students Think

I met Cheryl Cliney in Rincon, Puerto Rico, where she was teaching Tai Chi & Hatha Yoga. I came to her classes recouping after a fall on ice. Through her teachings, and stressing perfect alinement in a very kind and caring way, I was completely healed! She is a great teacher, understanding energy, the human body, mind & spirit!

I have had the pleasure of taking both Tai Chi and yoga classes with Cheryl. I found her teaching style to be the most welcoming balance of meeting individuals where they are (both that day and in their practice), as well as leading them to their personal next challenge while still managing the dynamic and flow of the class. I highly recommend her approachable, dynamic, and fun classes!

I have been studying Tai Chi and ChiGong off and on for thirty years. The difficulty had always been finding a teacher or center that worked for me. Now I can say going online to do my practice gives me full control and with the BEST instructor. With her classes I have quickly relearned the first and second section of the Yang form, and now with the Monday night class, Cheryl goes into detail how your limbs and weight should be and why you do it that way. The reasons are not only helpful but very interesting and sometimes surprising! All this is very important for doing the form well and getting maximum benefits. What can I say, she is just plane solid good!

I have been doing yoga off and on for many years but was reluctant to begin again due to my fear of injury as I often overdo it and then don’t continue. One of the first things that Cheryl advised is to go to 70% of your ability. This advice has been invaluable to my practice. I have been able to progress without fear of injury. I enjoy the Zoom classes and appreciate how personable Cheryl is. She encourages feedback and is open to helping anyone who asks.  She gives multiple options for poses so I can choose whatever suits my body on any particular day. I have been attending classes for over 8 months now and can honestly say that I feel better physically and mentally by the end of each class.

Though new to Tai Chi, I have already begun to benefit from this practice. The focus on slow, gentle movements and balance has begun to give me the confidence and skills I need to better deal with a recent diagnosis of Meniere’s Disease. I am doubly fortunate to have found a knowledgeable, enthusiastic instructor like Cheryl who encourages her clients to work at their own pace while listening to their bodies, trusting their own rhythms in the healing process.

Great explanations-want to focus on getting the basic movements correct so that I can build up to the more complex moves. I appreciate the repetition of the moves and feel that I am catching on.
